Barolo Town - Scarzello
(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)
Wine friends,
Bottom line up front – Scarzello’s wines are spectacular and Open Tuesday is the best way to buy them.
Our price for today’s 2020 Barolo is the best on the internet, including shops in Italy! And we are the only retailer in North America already selling the just-released 2020.
Last fall, we offered the 2019 Scarzello Barolo for under $50, and it now sells for $80 and up in the U.S.
Today’s second wine, the 2021 Scarzello Barbera, is also not yet available anywhere else in North America. If you want the 2020 version we offered last year (for under $25), it will run you about $35 elsewhere. (Today’s 2021 is a better vintage.)
Lastly – I recently paid $72 to have a case of wine shipped from the West Coast to the East coast. Ouch!
In contrast, Open Tuesday charges $60 a case to ship your wines directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature-controlled environment. Wine provenance doesn’t get any better than that.
Scarzello - 2020 Barolo del Comune di Barolo
Scarzello’s 2020 Barolo is a profound medium-bodied red wine that shows bright fruit, lively acidity, and perfectly integrated tannins. It’s all about balance, harmony, and drinkability. The grapes are sourced from two prestigious vineyards, Sarmassa and Terlo, both located just to the west of the historic Barolo town center. In the glass, the translucent nebbiolo fruit delivers an awesome blend of classic Barolo flavors, to include rose, tobacco, raspberry, and cedar. This is a Barolo that will age and evolve in your cellar gracefully for 20-30 years.
Scarzello - 2021 Barbera d’Alba Superiore
Scarzello’s 2021 Barbera Superiore is a juicy, full-bodied red wine sourced from two renowned Barolo vineyards, Paiagallo and Sarmassa (both of which are primarily planted to nebbiolo). It’s on the same quality level as the legendary 2019 Scarzello Barbera many of you know well. This 2021 Barbera shows more fruit than either the 2019 or the excellent 2020, and I’d say it’s the most lip-smackingly juicy wine of the three. It shows slightly less oak than the 2019 but the same impressive density mid-palate.

Scarzello is perhaps the ultimate hidden gem producer in Italy. Piedmont wine expert Gregory dal Piaz has said Scarzello flies slightly under the radar because Federico Scarzello releases his wines later than other Barolo producers, which results in less press acclaim.
Above all else, Federico wants his wines to be ready to enjoy when they hit the market. The results speak for themselves.
Scarzello’s cellars are located in the very heart of the town of Barolo (here on the map).
This family owned and operated house makes about 45 thousand bottles of wine per year.
Wines purchased through Open Tuesday will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.
Happy Tuesday,
Chris

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.
How it works:
After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!
About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.
We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.
This is the 13th offer of our 2024 fall season. In September and October, we’re sending 16-18 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.
We ship in increments of 12. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this fall season, we can hold your wines until the spring offer season.
Wines offered in the fall will ship in November for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.
Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
