Mediterranean Vibes - Du Nemu
(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)
Wine friends,
Today’s offer features three delicious and distinctive wines from Liguria, the Italian region bordering France along the Mediterranean coast.
Liguria’s two most interesting grapes are Rossese di Dolceacqua, a red, and Pigato, a white. Wine insiders have long predicted international wine fame for both, given their potential to produce flavorful wines of great character.
Unfortunately, too many of the current “best” Pigato and Rossese producers make wines that are lifeless or inconsistent. Consequently, as a wine region, Liguria remains mostly under-the-radar.
Which presents us with a great opportunity to find wine value.
Enter Du Nemu, a different kind of Liguran producer. The wines are lively and vibrant, while clearly radiating a sense of place. These wines taste and smell like they are made in Liguria, and could come from no place else.
With Du Nemu, we have access to some of the most unique, best value wines in all of Italy.
Wines purchased through Open Tuesday will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.
Du Nemu’s 2023 Pigato is a fresh organic white wine that’s briny, herbal, and subtly fruity. There’s an unmistakable sea-salty quality that’s both unique and alluring. While I love this wine on its own as an aperitivo, it shines brightest with shellfish and pesto-based pasta dishes.
Du Nemu - 2023 Rossese di Dolceacqua
Du Nemu’s 2023 Rossese di Dolceacqua is medium-bodied organic red wine that’s among the most versatile food wines made in Italy. It even pairs well with burgers, asian pork dishes, and meats slathered in BBQ sauce. This wine is juicy and fresh, with low tannins and a firm spine. Like the 2022 we offered last spring, this 2023 Rossese shows more rich cherry fruit than most Rossese examples on the market.
Du Nemu’s Cheló is a delightfully refreshing rosé (rosato in Italian) made from Rossese grapes in western Liguria, very near Italy’s coastal border with France. As a consequence, this wine has a lot in common with rosé from Provence. It shows notes of rosemary and sage, with a hint of bright cranberry. Cheló is crisp and pretty, with a firm backbone and subtle flavor depth.

Here’s Du Nemu on the map of northwestern Italy, just a few miles from the French border.
The grape variety known as Rossese in Italy originally comes from Greece. It was likely brought to western Liguria, and southern Provence, during Roman times. While Pigato’s DNA is identical to that of Vermentino, the two grapes make wines that have very different flavor profiles.
Du Nemu is a family-owned and -operated outfit that only produces about 20K bottles of wine per year.
Open Tuesday has the lowest prices outside of Italy on these distinctive artisanal wines!
Happy Tuesday,
Chris

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.
How it works:
After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!
About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.
We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.
This is the tenth offer of our 2024 fall season. In September and October, we’re sending 16-18 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.
We ship in increments of 12. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this fall season, we can hold your wines until the spring offer season.
Wines offered in the fall will ship in November for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.
Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
