Roman Holidays - Marco Carpineti

Wine friends,

The holiday season is just around the corner.

That means it’s a perfect time to stock up on OT’s favorite sparkling wine – Kius Brut by Marco Carpineti.

In recent years, this local Lazio wine has become the most iconic and ubiquitous sparkling wine in Rome. Demand in the Eternal City is such that Marco and his son Paolo only reserve export cases for a select group of customers. (Thanks again, Paolo!)

For today’s offer, I’ve also added my favorite Carpineti still wines, Capolemole Bianco and Capolemole Rosso. Thanks to OT member Todd N. for inspiring these bonus selections!

Our featured wine, the 2021 Kius Brut, is made with 100 percent Bellone grapes, a native variety that’s ideal for the production of metodo classico (Champagne method) sparkling wine in Lazio.

Open Tuesday’s price for this 2021 Kius Brut is better than any published price outside of Italy.

It’s a delicious and refined Roman wine that will lift your holiday meals to another level.

Marco Carpineti - 2021 “Kius” Brut

Marco Carpineti’s 2021 Kius Brut is a charming biodynamic metodo classico (Champagne method) wine made in Cori, Lazio, just south of Rome. Kius always delivers delicious sparkling joy at a convincing price, and this 2021 vintage is another great example. It shows full-flavored notes of apple, citrus, biscuit, and herbs, and has a crisp, dry, succulent finish.

Bonus Wines

Marco Carpineti - 2022 Capolemole Rosso

The 2022 Carpineti Capolemole Rosso is a hearty, full-bodied biodynamic red wine made in a generous crowd-pleasing style. This blend of Montepulciano and local Nero Buono grapes shows smoky dark berry fruit and a touch of well-integrated oak. The prominent ashy volcanic flavors partner with lush, robust fruit, yielding a wine that’s balanced and structured.

Marco Carpineti - 2023 Capolemole Bianco

This 2023 Capolemole Bianco is a crisp and zesty organic white wine produced from the Bellone grape, which is indigenous to the Cori area of Lazio. Although it’s the least expensive of three Carpineti white wines, it’s always been my favorite. I love the energetic freshness, the persistence, and the pleasing salty mineral finish.

Here’s a quote from the producer: “The Capolemole Bianco organic white wine wine gathers the structure of the volcanic terrains in which it is rooted, while shaping the taste of the present.”

Open Tuesday has the lowest price in the U.S. on this wine.

No wine producer is more closely linked to the foundation of Open Tuesday than Marco Carpineti. Marco’s son Paolo attended some of our first gatherings in Rome about ten years ago. At one event, Paolo disgorged a bottle of Kius submerged in water, at a crowded restaurant no less. His endearingly imperfect performance cemented Paolo as an early member of the group.

“Capolemole” refers to the Marco Carpineti estate, and its seven hills, just outside the town of Cori. Here’s Marco Carpineti on a map.

At the winery, Paolo pours Kius Brut with a frittura di verdure miste (mixed fried vegetable appetizer plate). Like most metodo classico wines, Kius is spectacular with french fries, especially gourmet fries.

Wines purchased through Open Tuesday will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 11th offer of our 2024 fall season. In September and October, we’re sending 16-18 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.

We ship in increments of 12. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this fall season, we can hold your wines until the spring offer season.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in November for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
