Roman Roads - Giacobbe
(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)
Wine friends,
A sizable cohort of our members have been clamoring for a Cesanese offer for quite some time, so I’ll keep this narrative short and let Alberto Giacobbe’s wines lead the way…
But first, I beg you – please do not overlook Giacobbe’s white wine, Duchessa. While Alberto is widely regarded in Italy as a Cesanese red wine maestro (and I’ve been a Giacobbe fan for years) it was today’s white wine, Duchessa, from Passerina del Frusinate grapes, that convinced me to prioritize a visit to the wine roads outside of Rome this summer.
Thanks to OT members John Riordan and Greg Dennis, in particular, for inspiring today’s offer. It took a while to finalize this deal but I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.
These wines from Giabobbe are fascinating, complex, highly drinkable, and somehow both rustic and refined at the same time.
Wines purchased through Open Tuesday will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.
Alberto Giacobbe - 2022 Duchessa Passerina del Frusinate
The Giacobbe 2022 Duchessa is an uber-fresh, medium-bodied organic white wine that’s great as an aperitivo but can also pair with fish, chicken, or pork. It shows prominent notes of citrus and herbs, with a touch of thistle on the close. Duchessa is 100 percent Passerina del Frusinate, a white grape that’s native to this part of Lazio. Vibrancy, fruit putity, and freshness are the calling cards of this gutsy everyday white.
Alberto Giacobbe - 2022 Giacobbe Cesanese di Olevano Romano Superiore
Alberto Giacobbe’s 2022 Cesanase di Olevano Romano is a sleek and complex medium-bodied organic red wine with flavor depth and length. It drinks well as an everyday wine, but also shows surprising aging potential. During my recent visit, Alberto poured the 2016 version of this wine, and it was positively magic. I was blown away. The term Burgundian escaped from my mouth unexpectedly, and I still don’t regret it.
Alberto Giacobbe - 2020 Lepanto Cesanese del Piglio Superiore Riserva
Alberto’s 2020 Lepanto Cesanese Riserva is a full-bodied, fruit-forward, structured organic red wine from a single estate vineyard, Lepanto. The wine’s ample acidity supports firm, well-integrated tannins, and plenty of expressive fruit. It’s fresh, round, muscular, and profound, showing layered notes of cherries, blackberries, and balsamic stoniness. I’m starting to think Cesanese from a great producer like Giacobbe might be the best red wine value in Italy.

Open Tuesday has the lowest price in North America for all three of these wines: Duchessa, Lepanto, and Giacobbe Cesanese.
Happy Tuesday,
Chris

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.
How it works:
After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!
About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.
We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.
This is the seventh offer of our 2024 fall season. In September and October, we’re sending 18 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.
We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36.
If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this fall season, we can hold your wines until the spring offer season.
Wines offered in the fall will ship in November for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.
Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
