**This is the 18th and final offer of our spring season! To get to a 12-bottle increment for an April shipment, you can also browse wines that are still available from previous offers. It’s also not too late to order a half or full curated case (of red and sparkling wines) from our Wine Attaché team.**
Wine friends,
Does anyone make a better Vino Nobile di Montepulciano than Contucci?
The Contucci family’s wines have been made the same way for generations. They are always classic, delicious, and a pure expression of Montepulciano and its winemaking traditions.
Our friend Alessandro Pepe of Rimessa Roscioli has been a vocal and tireless champion of Contucci for probably 20 years now. He speaks passionately about this Vino Nobile:
“Here you have a wine region dating back to before 1000 AD…1010 years of single-family ownership…65 years of work by cellar master Adamo…a room of frescoes dating to 1701…a cellar constructed in the original 13th century old town walls…traditional winemaking techniques with large barrels and no trendy French barrique…and no technological or cellar gimmicks to make a (manipulated) modern style of wine. What more do you want from a wine?”
The Italian wine guides agree. To quote just one, “Few winemakers can boast the traditions of Contucci, historically and stylistically. The wines are capable of exhibiting timeless classicism.” - Slow Wine Italia 2023
As for me, I couldn’t be happier to close our spring season on a high note with these Tuscan classics from Contucci – another “best in class” producer.
Contucci - 2018 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
The 2018 Contucci Vino Nobile is a medium- to full-bodied red wine that exhibits all the best qualities you could hope to find in a Vino Nobile. The texture is velvety and the flavors are multifaceted. It's near translucent, yet also substantial and structured. Is this a finesse wine or a power wine? My notes: “Tuscan herbs, red currant, violet. Stout backbone, good length. Expressive and balanced. The tannins are powerful but not taxing. Exemplary Contucci Vino Nobile!”
Contucci - 2020 Rosso di Montepulciano
Bonus wine - Contucci’s 2020 Rosso di Montepulciano is a medium-bodied fruit-forward red wine that’s refreshing and surprisingly profound at this price. It’s also an ideal wine to uplift your Tuesday night. My notes: “Morello cherry, ash, herbs, and cacao. Impressive fruit-savory balance. No oak or excess of any kind. Terrific value Rosso!”
Open Tuesday’s price for both wines is lower than any current offer in North America.

Contucci was one of the "founding fathers" of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation, as documented in 1773.
Both of today’s wines are made 80 percent Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese), 15 percent Canaiolo, and 5 percent Mammolo, all three of which are native Tuscan varieties.
Here’s Contucci on the map of central Italy.

Food pairing: The Vino Nobile pairs beautifully with savory dishes like stews, roasted and grilled lamb, steak, grilled mushrooms, and high quality salami or prosciutto. The Rosso is more versatile still, capable of matching midweek pizza, lasagna, or even grilled cheese.
More from Alessandro Pepe: “Skip the highly marketed and often overpriced Super Tuscans and pair this wine with some flavorful, authentic cured meats or a savory dish of beef, lamb or venison, and you’ll be feeling as ‘noble’ as the Nobile.”

How it works:
After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!
About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.
We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. But when there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.
This is the 18th and final offer of our spring 2023 season.
Through February and March, we are sending offers on Thursday and Sunday, with a recap of the past week’s offers on Tuesday.
We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – fall 2023.
Wines offered in the spring will ship in April for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.
Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
