Troncone - Le Ragnaie

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

This is the last of our 17 offers this fall season. Most of the wines you’ve ordered this fall are already on their way to our shipping partners in Tuscany, where they will soon be packed and prepared for a temperature-controlled flight across the atlantic.

There’s still time to fill your cases from our previous offers. If you need help selecting, just send me an email.

(*Please make any shipping address updates this week!!)

We end the season with an old favorite, the OG itself, Troncone by Le Ragnaie.

Le Ragnaie’s 2019 Troncone was the first wine we ever sold, and this 2022 marks the fourth consecutive vintage we’ve offered it to OT members.

As I’ve said before, Troncone is both simple and profound at the same time. It’s a wine that’s simply not trying to be anything other than pure, honest Tuscan Sangiovese. No fuss and no frills. The acidity is bright, and the tannins are smooth.

The profound part of the wine reveals itself about halfway through the bottle. When you taste it, be patient. The flavor depth evolves and grows as you sink your teeth into the wine. It makes you wonder how a wine this complex can also go down so smoothly.

Open Tuesday currently has the lowest published price in North America for this Troncone.

Le Ragnaie - 2022 Troncone

Le Ragnaie’s 2022 Troncone is a highly drinkable, yet surprisingly substantial, organic red wine made just outside the Montalcino appellation. This 100 percent Sangiovese shows pretty notes of ashy Tuscan herbs and sour cherry. In 2022, this wine shows gentle tannins, and a refreshing mid-palate and close. The Troncone label consistently delivers remarkable quality at this price point, and it’s probably the best QPR wine sold anywhere in Italy.

To order, just click one of the blue links above and follow the prompts.

Although it’s relatively inexpensive, Troncone is surprisingly ageable. Last year, Open Tuesday members Dianna Bentley, Carlos Plazas, and I shared a bottle of the 2012 and it was still vibrant and interesting. We had it alongside the 2020 Troncone and all three of us preferred the 2012.

Please check out this Rimessa Roscioli video of Riccardo talking about Montalcino and his Le Ragnaie vineyards. Towards the end, Riccardo explains why the Troncone is no longer labeled “Chianti Colli Senesi,” as it was in 2012.

Troncone pairs well with just about any meat dish or red sauce dish. I’ve had it recently with pizza, spaghetti bolognese, and costoletta alla milanese. While it has enough acidity to drink well on its own, I’d still look to snack on some taralli or cheese and crackers.

Here's where Le Ragnaie is located in Tuscany.

Le Ragnaie is also an excellent agriturismo hotel: https://leragnaie.com/en

Wines purchased through Open Tuesday will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 17th offer of our 2024 fall season. In September and October, we’ve sent 17 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.

We ship in increments of 12. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this fall season, we can hold your wines until the spring offer season.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in November for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
